Dr. Alyssa Matthews began her chiropractic journey when she started seeing a chiropractor at the age of 10. She was heavily involved in sports growing up and began to notice how going to the chiropractor helped her stay healthy and recover quicker from injuries.

“My chiropractor was my primary care physician. As I approached college age I knew I wanted to work in the healthcare field in some capacity. I knew I wanted a work life balance and I also wanted to help people get to the root of their problem. I wasn’t interested in covering up symptoms and kicking the can down the road. It quickly became clear that becoming a chiropractor checked all of those boxes for me.”

She attended the University of Wisconsin Madison and was a member of the Wisconsin Rowing team. She continued to receive chiropractic care as a member of the team, and ultimately decided to pursue chiropractic. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin Madison with a BS in Biology, Dr. Alyssa earned her Doctorate of Chiropractic at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA.

“I started chiropractic school in October of 2013. I remember during those first few weeks of school we talked about everyone’s ‘chiropractic story’. Chiropractic care was often a last resort for my peers, but miraculously their ailments were fixed by chiropractic care. What better way to get people to understand chiropractic care than by telling them my amazing success story?”

Since moving back to Wisconsin in 2017, she has been practicing in Waukesha. Outside of the office Dr. Alyssa enjoys hanging out with her husband (fellow chiropractor) Mitch and son Beau. She loves spending time outside, particularly hiking, and exploring new places. Dr. Alyssa strongly believes her family’s chiropractic lifestyle has kept them healthy and able to enjoy the things they love.

“It took me a couple of years into practice to realize that I may not have that ‘crazy’ story, but I have a different, just as impactful, story. I started seeing a chiropractor when I was around ten years old. I didn’t have chronic ear infections, constipation, scoliosis or any ailment that would typically prompt someone to take their ten year old to the chiropractor for. My parents started seeing one, so I started seeing one.

I have seen and personally experienced what life can be like by consistently receiving chiropractic care. It doesn’t have to be about big crazy ailments and injuries or even back pain in general. Does chiropractic care solve these problems? Of course! It can also help achieve an overall higher quality of life and prevent many of these ailments from happening in the future. That is ultimately why I am a chiropractor and opened Haven Chiropractic.

I want to help people get better and feel better. I want them to get their quality of life back. I also want to help people keep their health and prevent injuries and arthritis. I want more people to have the chiropractic story I have.”
